World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses, such as PvE damage and crit chance.
For instance a weapon that has the upgrade template that is ending in % will take on 3% attack damage every time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).
The cost of upgrading an item increases as it reaches the item's current level. The cost rises with item's level.
Components
Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, weapons and armor to provide them with a boost in stats or an extra effect. They can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades also come with special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can only be used on equipment with a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to a blue level before the component can be used. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and can't be used multiple times or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are kind of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascending equipment, as as some non-ascended items. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.
A prefix or suffix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it is used on (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, allowing players to create stronger versions using the smallest amount of Upgrade crystals than they require to reach the same level using normal methods.
A 'boost' upgrade can change the attack or defense attributes of a weapon, or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist, these upgrades can be created at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades are available for purchase them from the cash shop or obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other equipment.
The player can have up to five boost upgrades at one time. Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-tier version of the item will appear in the next reset. This gives players an incentive to upgrade their gear even in the event that they don't know what will be improved after an update.
Whether a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process can be costly and there is a high chance that the item could become obsolete or even break when it fails; a failed upgrade will cause the destruction of the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the chance of failure. Some upgrades also offer a bonus if they are reinserted.
Glyphs
Glyphs are upgrade elements that can be inserted into special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs increase the power of nodes within a radius, including any existing attaches. Glyphs can be upgraded in a variety of ways, and we recommend upgrading them to 15 levels as soon as you can.
In the final game you'll find that the best way to improve your gear is by placing Glyphs. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded directly to level 15 and offer a large boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to climb higher nodes faster.
Glyphs, the sole upgrade component that can be removed without restriction and replaced with no restrictions are the most commonly used. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and rebuilt using the aid of a Black Lion Salvage Kit.
Each Glyph has a certain range of values it can improve a stat by. The value is shown when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with an Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.
Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase them with certain tools that are unlimited in use, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Every Faction Crypt could drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.
Once you have gotten the desired Glyphs you'll need them to be placed on your gear. Each Glyph will grant a distinct bonus that will boost a particular set of stat nodes within a radius around the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph the bonus will be +40 to one of your primary stats or +25 to two of your secondary stats.
Utilizing a Glyph will boost all nodes connected to it, and it is recommended to position your Glyphs close to key nodes on the Graph to maximise the impact. For example an Druid should try to position their Glyphs close to their primary damage points, but you should also be sure to place them near the most critical damage nodes, too.
Leveling
The item upgrade system allows players to increase the power of certain items by adding upgraded components. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item has a level which determines the final stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum level of ilvl 385. Each level of an item requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.
Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be bought from NPCs, or on the upgrade tab of a crafting table. Each completed Upgrade Recipe earns several Technology Points. These points can be used to the upgrading of an item. When enough points have been earned you'll be able to claim the upgrade and also receive the bonuses.
When the player upgrades an item to a higher level, the original item is replaced with a new item of the same kind. The same armor will receive a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item also has its own bonus. This can be a disadvantage in that it could cause the item to become more expensive if you do not require it.
If the player has enough tokens they can roll the upgrade of their item. This will cause the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, which will come with an initial level and a totally different set of bonuses. This can be useful for certain items, however it's not something that should be performed frequently, since it could waste many resources.
Certain upgrades can increase their value and allow players to personalize their gear. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it provides buffs when the player is repeatedly in or leaves the water. This item can be upgraded several times, increasing the maximum roll every time by 10 increments. This item can be extremely useful in PvP battles, since the best version of it could be worth between 20 and 50x its non-upp'd value.
Requirements
The upgrade of items allows players to upgrade the level of their available gear--armor, weapons and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by providing the appropriate currency and items to an NPC that upgrades items. Upgrading armor set pieces will also increase the defense base of that piece, while upgrading weapon equipment will increase the damage base and required strength and dexterity to meet the upgraded equipment's requirements.
All items can be upgraded up to five times, with the exception for hero equipment, which is able to be upgraded eight times. Each time you upgrade an object, it is at risk of failing. The rate of failure increases as you go over the maximum number. Failures can result in the item reverting back to its original condition, which requires the user to pay more for materials than they would had they stopped upgrading at the maximum number of upgrades.
If an item is not able to upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. item upgrading will also lose any bonuses it earned, such as the chance to crit, attack damage, or additional effects (such as a higher healing rate over time or reloading speed). The player can continue to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.
When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from lowest to the highest. This means that if a weapon receives a crit chance boost, the increase will be applied before any damage to attack increases. A new attribute known as Slots has been added to the item's definition and the value is computed every time an upgrade is applied.
The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is based on its rarity rating and upgrade slot count. The upgrade cost for non-premium items is the same as the base value of the upgrade--for example, a common equipment item could have five upgrades, each costing 25,600 Technology Points and a 4x Quality Improvement Chance. Hero grade items will have an incredibly lower cost for each additional upgrade.
Premium items may have different upgrade requirements than regular gear. For instance they may require less sowels, but they will require more minerals and orons. Whatever the case, players will need to visit the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine with each piece of equipment they wish to upgrade. Each upgrade of equipment will require different amounts of upgrade ingredients in addition to the costs that are listed above.
